John Williams live at the 20th Anniversary Premiere of "E.T."

Who has more Academy Award nominations than any other living soul? It's not Meryl Streep. It's not Steven Spielberg. But you're getting warmer. With five wins out of 45 nods, it's Mr. Spielberg's long-time composer John Williams.

I saw the legendary conductor perform his hits with the L.A. Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend. He opened the second half of the show with the most famous two notes in film music history.

Script Bits - Monster Hunters and Bathroom Attendants

 Screenwriter Dante Harper’s script adaptation from the 2004 Japanese novel, “All You Need Is Kill” now has a director attached. Doug Liman will direct from Harper’s script, which sticks closely to the plot of the book, in which a soldier in a futuristic war against aliens wakes up at the exact same moment in time every time he dies. Much like a higher concept, “Groundhog Day”, the film will show what happens as the solider becomes more skilled every time he is given another chance at life.

 It’s a big weekend for wide releases. There’s retro horror “Piranha 3D”, conception comedy “The Switch”, romance spoof “Vampires Suck”, children’s sequel “Nanny McPhee Returns”, and comedy “Lottery Ticket”. Despite the large number of big studio releases, there are still plenty of indie and alternative choices at box offices this weekend.
