The film world continues business as usual this week. Scripts are being bought, sold, and re-written and I'll tell you which ones. But we'll also talk briefly about how Hollywood is reacting to the crisis in Haiti and how you might help.

It's popular to talk about Hollywood as the cold machine that cares only for numbers and money. But this week has proven that success doesn't equal being a miser. Sometimes success gives you a greater power to help in moments of crisis, and that's exactly what many stars are doing, donating record amounts of cash to relief efforts in Haiti. The Golden Globes proved to be an evening of advocacy with all in attendance wearing red and gold ribbons and many stars urging the viewing public to give. Stars like Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are donating money in the millions and George Clooney will be hosting a telethon to raise more money soon. See? It's glamorous to give, and it's encouraging to see a sometimes cruel and ruthless industry open it's heart and bank account. Personally, it makes me feel better about being a movie geek. Watch for star's charities through which you can donate, such as Ben Stiller's Stillerstrong.org and Clooney's upcoming telethon. Now, onto this week's business...

Dan Gordan is writing a script based on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus for Samuel Goldwyn Films and producer Bill McKay. Gordan previously penned The Hurricane, so a biopic of suffering won't be a new structure for him. McKay made a statement to Variety.com indicating that he wants the film to include as much about the disciples and other “key players” as it does about Jesus. The film will not take liberties with the biblical account of the crucifixion and resurrection, intending to capture Passion of the Christ audiences. Release date is set for Easter 2011.

Heather Hach is set to adapt the famous pregnancy guide, What To Expect When You're Expecting into a romantic comedy script for Lionsgate. Hach wrote, “Legally Blonde: The Musical” and Freaky Friday. Hach's pitch for the book attracted multiple offers from various studios. Hach will create a script that revolves around multiple couples that are pregnant instead of just following one, following the model of filmmakers like Robert Altman and more populist films of a similar structure such as, Love Actually.

Renowned sci-fi scribes Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman (the duo responsible for last summer's Star Trek) and Damon Lindelof (of LOST) have written an adaptation of the graphic novel, Cowboys and Aliens. Jon Favreau is set to direct, and Robert Downey Jr. is almost a lock to star. The script is similar to the plot of the graphic novel, in which cowboys and Indians in the unsettled west make a peaceful pact after aliens crash on the land they've been fighting over.

Rashida Jones has written a script with her writing partner Will McCormack entitled, Celeste and Jesse Forever. Overture films has picked up the script for development and Seth Gordon is currently set to direct, with Jones starring in the lead female role. See? It pays to write your own material.
