This week brings news of plenty of films just recently picked up by major studios and headed into the casting process. However, just because a film is being cast, doesn't mean there won't still be work to do on the script. Read on to see what movies you can look forward to seeing in theaters a year from now.
Writers Jon Hjoeber and Erich Hoeber have finished the script for the live-action Battleship movie, with revisions by Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The film is in the casting process, and just picked up Liam Neeson, who will play Admiral Shane.
Terry Gilliam's forever entrenched film, “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” has screeched to a halt again. This time, due to finance problems. The seemingly cursed production was chronicled in 2002's hit documentary, “Lost in La Mancha” which showed the demise of the film being caused by everything from financial setbacks to torrential downpours. Gilliam now has Ewan McGregor and Robert Duvall set to star if he can only secure the financing once and for all.
Alex Garland's, “Judge Dredd” remake script is also in the casting stage. Garland, well known for previous sci-fi films such as, “Sunshine”, put his decidedly darker touch on the film that will shoot this year in South Africa. Actress Olivia Thirlby has just been cast to play the telepathic rookie opposite Karl Urban's, “Dredd”.
Writer Pablo Fenjves has penned a script totled, “Man on a Ledge” for Summit Entertainment. The film, which will shoot either late this year or early 2011, follows a female psychologist and an NYPD officer who threatens to kill himself by plunging off of a building. Casting is currently underway.
“Trafficking” is a script written by expert Siddharth Kara and follows the dark but important story of the human sex trade. The story follows three young girls, all from different countries, that hatch a deadly escape plan from their brothel in Italy. The script drew from Kara's interviews with over 500 sex slaves.
