Script Bits - Comics, Comedies, and Literary Adaptations

News this week of more novel and comic book adaptations, some independent and some via big studios, with news of at least one new film with an interesting title coming soon. Read on to learn about what scripts are being bought, sold, and negotiated.

 

Wayne Beach has been hired to adapt the recently published, “The Garden of Betrayal” by Entendre Films. Beach has penned several political thriller screenplays, including, “Murder at 1600”. The story follows an energy analyst at the heart of a conspiracy to attain what’s left of the world’s oil supply.

 

John Stansifer’s script for suburban comedy, “Gates of Eden” is headed into production. The film, being produced by Susan R. Rodgers under her Indiana Girl Productions banner follows the story of a seemingly normal couple thrown into turmoil by the accidental death of their obnoxious pool boy. When more convenient deaths of troublesome people in their life occur, the couple finds themselves cast in the light of suspicion.

 

The very popular writing team of Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones just sold another pitch, this time to Fox Searchlight. The pitch was titled, “Motherf***er” and follows the exploits of a man who falls in love with his girlfriend’s mother after she brings him home to meet her parents.

 

Kevin Hood has been hired to adapt the Sebastian Faulks’ novel, “On Green Dolphin Street”. Hood previously wrote, “Becoming Jane”. The film will stick to the novel’s storyline about the love affair between a diplomat’s wife and a journalist.

 

No writer has been announced yet for the graphic novel, “Last Man Standing”, being adapted for the big screen by Paramount. The story follows a genetically engineered soldier named, “Gabriel” who must protect the planet Amerika.
