Script Bits - Dreams, Ghosts, and A Rifleman

Fans of westerns will be happy to know that CBS is developing a “Riflemanremake and has already hired writers for the series. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier will write and executive produce the show about a Civil War hero who relocates to an unruly town in New Mexico and dispenses justice with his Winchester.

Writer Andrew Alexander's “Dreamt” is moving forward after recently finding a director. Martin Welsz (“The Hills Have Eyes II”) will lens the story about two men who discover they are dreaming each other's lives and the subsequent conflicts it creates. This sounds like a really unique story and one that I hope gets the appropriate treatment.

The “Bridesmaid” train isn't stopping anytime soon. One of the film's stars Wendi McLendon-Covey is using her stardom from that popular movie in gaining new roles. She recently signed on to star in the indieA White Trash Christmas” which is a redneck riff on the Charles Dickens' classic Christmas Carol.

Palomar Pictures (“Killer Elite”) just signed a three picture financing deal with Grovesnor Park. The films that will come from the partnership include two remakes (“Joseph and the Girl”) and a Stephen King adaptation (“Rose Madder”). Here's the quick low down on all three projects.

Joseph and the Girl” co-written by director Gary McKendry and his writing partner Matt Sherring is a remake of a French thriller. The heist film's plot revolves around a ex-con who after 20 years in jail moves into a house he inherited from a fellow inmate who died in prison. The trouble is he inherits the inmate's daughter as well.

Elliot” is a remake of the Norwegian film “Elling” about a 40 year old man with societal problem. The script is written by Jay Roach, Larry Stuckey, and Tom McCarthy. Roach and Kevin Spacey will produce the project.

Rose Madder” is being adapted by writer Naomi Sheridan (“In America”). The King novel follows a woman on the run from her husband by travelling through a painting. I'm looking forward to seeing how Palomar Pictures handles these projects.
