Like most projects, the film has seen several drafts of a script from various writers. Liz Garcia wrote an early draft and just this week, Alexa Junge was brought on board for the next draft. This isn't script news, and I wasn't planning on mentioning it. But I just can't help myself. How about Kathryn Bigelow taking home the first ever Best Director Oscar awarded to a woman? I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but as I'm writing the script report today, the first two bits of news that I want to pass on to you have to do with female writers, producers, and directors. Normally, women writers and directors only constitute a quarter of the news I can pass along, if that...which always bums me out. But not today my friends...not today. Welcome to the new era, and might I add...yee-haw! Okay, it's out of my system...moving along...

Writers Adam Cole-Kelley and Sam Pitman have pitched a winning idea to 20th Century Fox about a group of middle-schoolers suddenly transformed into adults. The original pitch was titled, “Premature Maturation”, but studio execs want to tone down the suggestive title in order to appeal to a wider audience. Sounds like some wacky hijinks will ensure in the script...don't you think?

The triple threat behind the Shrek films is prepping for his next project. Andrew Adamson, writer, director and producer of the animated films has sold a script he wrote with writer Joby Harold. A fantasy adventure currently titled, “Fountain City”. Plot details are being kept under-wraps in hopes of maintaining the originality of the fantasy. The long road up to respect for the genre has come a long way since the LOTR films debuted and on the heels of “Avatar”, we're sure to see many more fantasy films in the coming years.

The untitled comedy script by “Bolt” writer Dan Fogelmen we recently reported on is getting the all-star cast a writer could only dream of. On top of Steve Carell's already public involvement, an actor who has become more well-known for his dramatic roles has just signed on. Ryan Gosling will play Carell's best friend. His other two upcoming roles will, in fact, be dramas.
