This week brings a nice collection of projects for the entire family. There is comedy, animation, and drama on the horizon. Do any of these films sound exciting to you?
Writer D.V. DeVincentis (“High Fidelity”, “Grosse Pointe Blank”) is set to write a feature adaptation of the Indian documentary “The Bengali Detective”. The original documentary focused on Rajesh Ji, a Calcutta detective whose dream was to dance on Indian TV. Stephen Frears (“The Grifters”) is set to direct the live action remake.
Veteran TV writer/producer Kevin Arcadie (“NYPD Blue”, “The Shield”) signed on write the biopic of Larry Davis. In 1986, Davis survived a shootout with 30 police officers and escaped for 17 days. Arcadie will write the script for Epoch Motion Pictures.
Plans for “Lego”, an action animated movie set in the Lego world are still rolling out. The writing directing team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”) are developing the film, which will be produced in Australia. The project will generate up to $48 million for the Australian economy.
Writer/Director Fend Xiaogang's next film is gathering a talented cast. Tim Robbins and Adrian Brody have signed on to the as-yet-untitled film about a deadly famine that hit China in 1942. The film will start production in April.
Writer Isabel Dupuy has been tapped by Amber Entertainment to adapt Paula McCain's “The Paris Wife: A Novel”. The plot revolves around Ernest Hemingway and his wife Hadley in Paris during the 1920s. As a fan of good biopics, I'm going to be keeping an eye on this project as it develops.
