There are some interesting projects moving along. From indies to blockbusters, Hollywood is making the most of award season to whet our appetite for future films.
Fans of “The Artist” will be happy to know that the director of that movie, Michel Hazanavicius, announced his next film. Inspired by the 1948 film “The Search” the project will be set in Chechnya and revolve around a woman and young boy in the war torn country.
TV writer Matt Witten (“House”) is gaining a strong cast for his feature script “Drones”. The indie thriller will be directed by Rick Rosenthal and recently signed Matt O'Leary and Eloise Mumford. The story follows two drone pilots who are surveying the Afghan Mountains for members of Al Qaeda.
Writer-director Cole Wiley's “After the Storm” has found a producer. California Pictures has come on board to produce the film about a young boy who must overcome awful tragedies caused by Hurricane Katrina. Actor Wendell Price (“The Wire”) is set to star in the picture.
French writer director Agnes Jaoui and her husband Jean-Pierre Bacri are developing “Au Bout du conte” (Under the Rainbow). The foreign film will be a comedy about a group of people looking for meaning in their lives. Memento Films will co-produce the feature.
Multi-hyphenate brothers JT and Damon Alexander have rolled out their production company, Route 17 Entertainment. The brothers have two films planned for production. The first is writer-director Michael C. Martin's debut film “The Go-Getters”. The story will center on criminals in LA and their quest for happiness. The film will also star the Alexander brothers.
Route 17 Entertainment's second planned feature will be “A River Between”. Actor-writer-director Lane Garrison (“Prison Break”, “Shooter”) will shoot his own script about a Texas border patrol officer who must choose which side he is on after he falls in love with a Mexican woman.
Check back here to see how Route 17 Entertainment develops over this next year and beyond. Personally, I'm always curious to see how these small production houses fair, especially when their initial projects are scripts from first time screenwriters.
