There is a lot of exciting news from the world of screenplay sales and project green lights.
Writers E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman (“Capote”) should be excited, because their script “Foxcatcher” has found a big star. Steve Carell will star in the film about an Olympic gold medal winning wrestler's murder by millionaire, John du Pont. “Moneyball” director Bennett Miller has been developing this intriguing film based on a true story for four years.
The Indie writing-directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck recently had their script “Hate Mail” greenlit at Wayfare Entertainment. The story centers around several New Yorkers who have their relationships tested after receiving hate mail. This is Boden and Fleck's third feature after starting off with the short film “Gowanus, Brooklyn.” It just goes to show you that everyone has to start somewhere.
Director Kevin Tancharoen's “Mortal Kombat” webisode series has successfully secured him the opportunity to direct a feature length adaptation of the famous video game series. He will write the script with Oren Uziel (“Kitchen Sink”). The film, much like the webisode series, is a reboot of the franchise with the material receiving a more realistic treatment.
Writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt have been tapped by Universal to rewrite the screenplay for “Wanted 2”. The duo wrote the first film and are capable of taking over duties on the sequel. The original film followed a group of assassins with special abilities.
Writer Gillian Gorfil's first feature script is getting closer to production. First director Robert Luketic (“Legally Blonde”) signed on to lens “Brilliant” and now Eric Bana has come on board to star. The story focuses on a small time crook who joins a group of accomplished thieves.

Foxcatcher
That sounds interesting and a different kind-of film for Carell.
