In this week's Script Bits, we're giving you inside info on Quentin Tarantino's next film,
Quentin Tarantino is moving forward with his script “Django Unchained” which will be a spaghetti western starring a former slave turned bounty hunter. Though the pic isn't in production yet, the all-star cast announcements have been making big news. Seems like everyone wants to work for one of the film world's last big auteurs. (Let's hope that statement isn't true and that I'm just being dramatic. Sidebar: Is the auteur becoming a role of the past? Is it something a filmmaker can orchestrate or does the industry prevent that kind of creativity today?) Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tarantino alumni Samuel L. Jackson, Lucy Liu, and Pam Grier are also set to star. And Variety recently announced that Tarantino's frequent soundtrack collaborator RZA will assume a supporting role onscreen. “Kill Bill II” is arguably one of the better modern westerns created over the last few decades. By sticking to the heart of the western genre instead of recreating it, he managed to avoid and simultaneously embrace all the schmaltz and cliches. Will you see it?
Steven Christopher Young will be directing from his own script for the indie thriller "Over the Wall". Cast signings have been announced last Thursday and include Hayden Pannetiere, Nich Stahl, Freddy Rodgriguez and Melissa Leo. The story follows a tragic event in the world of stock car racing and how it closely affects the members of a family as they seek comfort and redemption.
Davis Films ("The Resident Evil Franchise") secured the film rights to another supernatural series, this time from the world of literature. "House of Night" is the story of a 16 year old girl who finds out she has been chosen to become a vampire. The book series was written by the mother/daughter writing team of P.C. and Kristin Cast.
Writers Chris Henchy ("The Other Guys") and Shawn Harwell ("Easbound and Down") script "Dogfight" is piling on the cast. Brian Cox is in talks to come abroad the comedy about two politicians battling for a congressional seat in North Carolina. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis have already signed on to play those two politicians. Jay Roach ("Austin Powers") is set to direct.
Grammy winner Brandy has joined the cast of Tyler Perry's next movie "The Marriage Counselor". The script revolves around a counselor who but can't seem to take her own marrital advice. The film will star Jurnee Smollett, Kim Kardashian, and Jerry Stiller.
Writer/Director W. Peter Iliff ("Point Break") has begun casting his new thriller, "Fast Flash to Bang Time". Michelle Monaghan ("Machine Gun Preacher") will star as a sex addicted FBI agent with one last shot to save her career.
