Which Editing Program Is Right For You?

If you’re like me you are probably a jack of all trades. You can write, you can shoot, and you can edit. You may not be the best at any one thing, but due to your education you were taught the basics of each. In fact, you might even be one of those people who would prefer to focus on just one of these aspects of production, but continue to find yourself scoring gigs in all three areas. Believe it or not, if this is the case then you are one of the lucky ones. Having a diversified set of skills is going to make you an appealing candidate for years to come.

Several feature requests that would make this really awesome!

* First, I cannot get reasonable formatting.  I realize there really are no "rules" but there are very common formatting practices and this software doesn't seem to really obey any of the pagination related ones (where to insert page breaks, i.e. don't introduce a new character's dialogue if at least two lines of dialogue can't fit on the same page, etc.)  If you could either automate some of this by some common "standard", that would be great.

DTE Recorders Change the Production Process Forever!

JVC MR-HD100

So… those that know me know that I’m a total gear-head.  I try to keep up with technology and gear by subscribing to 14 different industry trade rags - good thing I’m a speed-reader!

(1) a  wild and uninhabited area left in its natural condition; "it was a wilderness preserved for the hawks and mountaineers"; (2) a bewildering profusion;  "a wilderness of masts in the harbor". Recently, I've learned all about filming in the wilderness; and under both definitions! Read on for some tips and checklists.

My Name is Jerry Trailer & Screening

First of all, it's not a premiere, it's a "first screening." More on that later.

We finally cut together a trailer and got it up on YouTube. Cutting a trailer for a movie like this seemed almost impossible. It's at times a slow, quiet, and subtle movie. It's funny, too, but there aren't any car chases, or explosions, or obvious and classic "trailer moments," to really sell the film.

NxNW: One of My Favorite Films and a Master Class in Editing

Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 film North by Northwest has long been one of my favorite films.   Steadfast in my fluid top ten list and, if pressured, I'd probably put it in my top three.   I was reminded of it  over the weekend by a David Coddon's article on it in the San Diego Union Tribune.  David points out that, not only is it a great
