I also really hate it when things are clearly marketed to kids that should just be for adults. It confuses parents and seems really tricky. Like a ploy to get more box office money.

I haven't read any reviews in all fairness, but a movie called, "Grey Skies" just came out that says it does exactly what you just mentioned with aliens. Google it and watch the preview, you might be interested.
