The Abby Singer is on-set lingo for the next-to last shot of the day. It precedes the Martini Shot.
Legend has it that Abner "Abby" Singer, a Hollywood production manager and assistant director, would often trick the entire cast and crew of his productions into believing the next to last shot of the day was actually the last. When interviewed on the subject in 2002, Singer said he just always made it a habit to call out to the crew when it was the second to last shot of the day and say "this shot and one more." His crews took to calling the shot "The Abby Singer." The name stuck not only on Abby's sets but is now widely known, used and accepted throughout the industry worldwide.
