Casting Director

In filmmaking, the Casting Director is the person responsible for locating and auditioning actors for roles in a film.

About

During Pre-production, the Casting Director is considered the "front line" in the casting of a film. After reading a screenplay and convening with the director and discussing which kind of attributes are needed to fulfill his or her character vision, the Casting Director goes to work locating the talent. Agents are called, headshots are received and auditions are set. The "weeding-out" process begins with the headshots. Further trimming of propects happens in the auditions, where, along with Casting Director, the Director, Producer and possibly the writer will participate in the selection process.

Casting Directors are also often called upon to procure any extras needed, be it through an agency or an ad.
