Martini Shot

The Martini Shot is the last shot of a production before it "wraps".

Usage

The term has become so popular among productions that people often use it to refer to the last shot of a given day, but the original intention of it was the last shot of the entire shoot.

History

This last shot was so named because drinks -- and specifically martinis -- were to be the next shot.   Or perhaps martinis are to be toasted while the last shot is actually being shot -- mixing a little pleasure with business.   Whatever, when a production ends principal photography, it's definitely time to celebrate for all involved, whether your poison is a martini, beer, glass of wine, soda, water, coffee, or whatever strikes your fancy.

Other production shots that became worthy of collecting naming rights include the Abby Singer (the shot before the Martini Shot), the Marislasis (the third to last shot), the Maya Angelou (the fourth to last shot), and the Lou Nidus (the shot before lunch).
