Original

Original refers to the film that was directly shot by the camera. The film “negatives” almost always refer to the “original” film, but can be different. If the original film is copied or duped, the copy can also be referred to as a negative, but could not be called an original. This specification was especially important when copying film created lower quality negatives. Quality is mostly preserved now, but is still an issue with copying.
