In filmmaking, the Zoom shot is a shot that either closes in on a subject to a Tight On or Close Shot (zoom in), or that backs away from said subject (zoom out).
By using the zoom camera lens, the Zoom shot is often employed for dramatic effect, be it focused on a character, prop, or location. A similar effect may also be achieved by utilizing a dolly or any other movement that will produce a convergence or divergence upon a subject.
