Is eBay the best and only place to get after-market tickets? There are a lot for sale on there. Also, I see many tix specifying Male or Female ... do they actually have certain tix for only male and females?
This is kind of a late post concerning Comic Con 2010 since CC2010 is over, but Comic Con 2011 tickets will be going on sale soon (the servers have crashed during the last 2 attempts to go live, newest sale date is unknown as of this post).
I think the reason why they say male/female is because of the names. When you buy someone else's CC tickets, it will have their names on the tickets - you can't transfer tickets. So if you buy a ticket with a name of "Jane Doe" and you look more like a "John Doe" then you'd probably have problems getting past the security check point. They don't compare the name to your ID, but they do look at the name and color of ticket (tickets are colored coded to specify which day of week or week long, each day is different color and week long tickets are different color than one day passes).
When picking up the tickets at the desk, they do compare the names to a real photo ID. So buying scalped tickets require the other person to go to the conference center, stand in line to pick up the tickets, then meet you outside and give them to you. Also, if you buy multiple day passes (other than the entire week pass), then you need to go through the above process each day (waiting for your seller to stand in line, get ticket, then meet you outside).
I've been to the last 3 SDCC (and live in SD) and I've known a few people to buy scalped tickets and that's the process they went through. They had to meet the guy outside of the conference center to get the tickets.
Thanks for the additional tips.
After reading all the fun Wonder Con news, I'm ready to talk Comic Con again! What's poppin' this year? Anyone hear/know anything?
A little bird told me about a really cool table at Comic-Con yesterday. The "Her Universe" booth looks to be really really cool. Check out the website at www.heruniverse.com! Just for the sake of tranparency, I did an interview with Ashley Eckstein yesterday and she has some really amazing thoughts on fangirl culture. So while you're looking around for SDCC stuff this year, again, check out the website. Very cool.
Yes, often they're gender specific because you have to pre-register for tickets. But I would be really uncomfortable getting tix on Ebay, because there's a very detailed registration process and I would imagine getting them on Ebay might mean having to be dis-honest somehow...
You know, I really HATE scalpers of tickets. If you don't want to go to Comic-COn, DON'T BUY TICKETS and then rate-hike them for those that truly care about the event. It really burns my biscuits.
I know sometimes people buy tix and then something comes up preventing them from attending, but you can always get a refund if you file it on time.
Geez...didn't know I had all that to get off my chest, haha!
